Welcome to the South Carolina Division, Sons of Confederate Veterans’, Grave Registration Program website section. This Program was implemented to create a searchable database containing the information of the Final Resting Place of every known Confederate Soldier buried in the State of South Carolina and the Final Resting Place of every known South Carolina Confederate Veteran buried somewhere other than South Carolina. This, of course, is a monumental undertaking and will require the support and participation of every member of the South Carolina Division.
In order to accomplish this task and make it work, the necessary tools and procedure had to be created so that every participant will be gathering this data and producing the end results in the same format in the simplest manner, and requiring the minimum manpower to produce a credible and complete searchable database. Forms have been created to gather information in the field and for the input of that information into an electronically active spreadsheet that can be used to automatically load this data into the searchable database with the least amount of work. The procedures for gathering this data have been established describing each participant’s duties and distributing the work at different levels so as not to overload any participant in this effort and provide an end product of which we can all be proud.
This website section has been created to keep you updated, provide useful information, make necessary forms available to those requiring them and in the near future house the searchable database. Those of you have ancestors buried in other states, we ask to please hold that information until the database is up and running at that time check and see if your ancestor is on there. If he is not, submit your information at that time. Also it is important that everyone read and understand the Policy and Procedures on this website.
