Hunley – Housatonic Memorial Service

We are staying on the IOP for the month of Feb. We were exploring Sullivans Island when we happened on the cannon and Reenactors at Breach Inlet Park. We were told of the memorial service and decided to attend since we were both aware of the Hunley story(pretty good for 2 Yankees originally from MA) As a retired USAF pilot and Vietnam Ve†(flew out of CHS AFB and lived on the IOP at one time in my career), I was moved by the thoughts and reverence that went into the planning and execution of this program. However,,I was a little taken aback by the fact that the Star Spangled Banner was not also sung at the end of the ceremony. The fact that the USN victims on the Housatonic were honored and memorialized, it would also seem to me that the USA Anthem should also be sung as it is at all USA Military Memorials. Overall,with the current tendency to not only rewrite history but to completely obliterate it, I was pleased to see that is not the case here. Nice job
