If you are looking for information pertaining to the American “Civil War” or as we call it, “The Cause for Southern Independence”, then you’ve come to the right place, or if you are interested in learning more about the Sons of Confederate Veterans, our purpose and mission, then we can help you there also. Founded in 1896, the Sons of Confederate Veterans has been faithful to the mission charged to us by our Confederate forebears; simply stated, “Tell the story of why we fought”.

“To you, Sons of Confederate Veterans, we will commit the vindication of the cause for which we fought. To your strength will be given the defense of the Confederate soldier’s good name, the guardianship of his history, the emulation of his virtues, the perpetuation of those principles which he loved and which you love also, and those ideals which made him glorious and which you also cherish.”

Lt. General Stephen Dill Lee, Commander General, United Confederate Veterans, New Orleans, Louisiana, April 25, 1906

Modern history textbooks and contemporary mindset is far removed from the political and economic events of 150 years ago so it’s no wonder that many Americans today do not understand what animated the Cause that led to the secession of Southern States. However, rest assured, we do! As we embark on the eve of the upcoming sesquicentennial (150) commemoration of the “War Between the States”, the South Carolina Division, Sons of Confederate Veterans, will be hosting and participating in numerous events around the State. These events will be quite memorable and some perhaps even spectacular so I hope you will be able to join in for the festivities and enjoy the celebration of our Southern heritage and culture. We’ll try to keep our on-line calendar posted and up to date, outlining the events for the next 5 years (2010 – 2015).
